Double Bay in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs is one of Sydney's more exclusive suburbs with dozens or prestige homes, yet ironically it is also home to a number of older apartment blocks. Over the last few months, we have overseen works on an Art Deco apartment complex in Pine Street Double Bay which was suffering brick tie corrosion which was in turn leading to brickwork which was unstable, loose or buckling. However, remediation works could not stop just there, as we identified that in addition to reinstating the structural integrity of the façade walls with new epoxy ties, new timber windows were required on a large percentage of the building, and in order to make good on the extensive brickworks being undertaken repointing was needed across the entire building.
Update as at May 2017 Utilizing the benefits of modern day science and building techniques the facade is currently being prepared for finishing touches, helping to restore the building to its former glory.
Overall work has included supervision of
Brick tie installation and load testing requirements of the new ties to ensure lateral restraint.
Replacement of corroded lintels
Removal of existing flashing and their replacement to prevent further brick growth and water ingress
