Age is kind to somethings in life - wine and cheese spring to mind - yet for others, such as this 8-unit apartment building in Cronulla, the opposite was true. What had once been a modern looking apartment block had become an old, in-need-of-love residency. For the owners, it was more a case of wanting to update the facade of the building than anything else, and as such we were appointed to oversee the restoration of the balcony substrates and the installation of new modern handrails. However, whilst to the eye there was little sign of significant delapidation, upon inspection for preparation of our report, we found evidence of concrete cancer which needed to be treated. Having started overseeing restoration in late 2016, all works were finished in May 2017, resulting in a modest upgrade to the appearance and compliance to the building. Best of all, occupants are now enjoying the use of balconies without the fear of water penetration or risk to safety through non-compliant balustrades.
