Corrosion of reinforced steel to balcony slabs was first identified 2 years prior to BellMont being engaged by The Owners Corporation. The Owners were also aware of underlying corrosion issues to the steel component of the balustrades, though the extent was unclear and replacement was considered to be too expensive. The balustrade posts were identified as an additional source of corrosion and distress which inturn resulted in cracking of the brick balustrade.

 

Bellmont were engaged to specify a remedial solution to the issues without replacement of the balustrade.

 

Remedial works to each post has necessitated for the surrounding brickwork to be removed and anti-corrosive treatment of the posts to be applied in order to provide long term protection against corrosion.

 

R.M.WATSON was the contractor engaged for this work and are working in close consultation with Bellmont to provide the necessary opportunity for Bellmont to inspect and specify solutions as the project develops. Upon completion, the façade will be pressure washed to remove years of deleterious staining and coated to provide long term protection to the reinforced concrete locations.
