Facade restoration for Wollongong Hospital
As part of our Façade cladding assessment of the building, we conducted an inspection of the substructure supporting the vertical sun shades. It was during this inspection that we discovered that the lower structural beams were filled with water, leading to the untreated internal surface of the structural beams corroding.
This is part of a wider cladding replacement project being undertaken in Wollongong.
This finding underscores the importance of regular structural inspections and assessments to detect hidden issues during a remedial project.
Considering the critical role of the beam as an essential structural element for the vertical sun shade, it was determined that it should be replaced to mitigate the risk of a significant failure.
