Arguably providing some of the most spectacular views of Sydney and its harbour, this multi-level residential complex was suffering from reinforcement corrosion, due to the absence of waterproof membranes to the balconies.

Bellmont was engaged by The Owners Corporation to document, specify, tender and manage the transformation of the balconies. Bellmont investigated the extent of reinforcement corrosion and, before specifying a remedial solution, to provide the Owners with modern and structurally sound balconies for years to come. Repairs were undertaken to rectify the extensive concrete cracking and spalling concerns, including the treatment of steel reinforcements and the waterproofing and tiling of the balconies.

The existing corroded steel handrails were replaced and the Owner’s brief on the new balustrade was for BellMont’s engineers to specify a balustrade system that did not require any vertical or horizontal steel supporting members.

Bellmont presented the Owners with plans of a frameless glass balustrade system, which we later designed and specified. This system was required to be fixed to the slab edge using stainless steel buttons, embedded into the slab edge.

This frameless glass balustrade system, allows uninterrupted panoramic views of Sydney Harbour and has transformed the building’s appearance whilst retaining its character.
