Wilcannia Council Building and Post Master’s Residence
Bellmont Façade Engineering was engaged by the Central Darling Shire Council to undertake condition assessments of two significant sandstone buildings in Wilcannia: the Wilcannia Council Administration Building and the Wilcannia Post Master’s Residence.

Wilcannia Council Admin Building
Constructed in 1887, during Wilcannia’s peak as a major inland river port, this late Victorian sandstone building was originally constructed as a bank and now serves as the Central Darling Shire Council’s administration building.
Wilcannia Post Master’s Residence
Designed by Colonial Architect James Barnet and constructed in 1879, this NSW Heritage-listed sandstone building sits on the Darling River beside Wilcannia’s former port. Once at the centre of the region’s paddlestreamer trade, it remains an important landmark and a symbol of the town’s history.
Condition Assessment
Bellmont’s heritage and façade engineering specialists completed detailed inspections of both buildings, assessing key building elements for signs of age-related and structural defects. The assessments informed comprehensive reports with recommendations for heritage remediation, ongoing maintenance and the long term conservation of these important historical buildings and corbels, which required being coated and detailed with fabric reinforced elastomeric waterproof membranes. Soffits and timber doors were coated with suitable systems.
