Sydney's gateway to Chinatown has been captured by the two elegant and traditional Chinese Gates, allowing Sydney to capture the essence of China in the southern CBD. Bellmont Façade Engineering was engaged for expert advice in establishing a scope of works for the refurbishment of the Chinese Gates Structures in Sydney's Chinatown. Appointed by the City of Sydney to rectify a key structure in their portfolio, the structures were deemed to have deteriorated as a result of the effects of water and weather exposure over years of service life.
The initial onsite investigation involved the Bellmont team inspecting both gates with access provided using an elevated work platform, this allowed for a detailed visual investigation to be undertaken to ascertain the condition of the structural components of the gates. The results of this investigation allowed Bellmont to produce a technical specification outlining the required rectification works which have been tendered to contractors by City of Sydney council. The works typically involved replacement of roof tiles, treatment of steel components, replacement of deteriorated timber elements, and application of a protective coating system to provide long-term protection. These works were scheduled to commence and be completed before the 2012 Chinese New Year. Technical advice was provided by Bellmont as required throughout the duration of the remedial works.
