Arguably providing some of the most spectacular views of Sydney and its harbour, this multi-level residential complex was suffering from reinforcement corrosion, resulting from absence of waterproof membranes to the balconies.
Bellmont was engaged by The Owners Corporation to document, specify, tender and manage the transformation of the balconies. Bellmont investigated the extent of reinforcement corrosion and, before specifying a remedial solution, to provide the Owners with a modern and structurally sound balconies for years to come. Repairs were undertaken to rectify the extensive concrete cracking and spalling concerns – steel reinforcement corrosion was treated and balcony membrane and tiling was undertaken.
The existing corroded steel handrails were replaced and the Owner’s brief on the new balustrade was for BellMont engineers to specify a balustrade system that did not require any vertical or horizontal steel supporting members.
Bellmont presented the Owners with plans of a frameless glass balustrades system. The frameless system was favoured by the Owners and then Bellmont engineers designed and specified the frameless balustrade system which required to be fixed to the slab edge using stainless steel buttons, embedded into the slab edge.
This frameless glass balustrade system, allows uninterrupted panoramic views of Sydney Harbour and has transformed the buildings appearance whilst retaining its character.
