Spectacle Island

Spectacle Island is just as beautiful as it sounds. With a view of Sydney Harbour and the Harbour Bridge, it is no surprise that this site is one of significance. The site is heritage listed for its collection of historical artefacts, more than half a million individual items in fact and their ties to the history of the Royal Australian Navy.

BellMont were engaged to help restore the front face of the sea wall on the Island. This element of the island is very important as it is not only the first thing visitors see when approaching the Island, but it is an integral part of the structure of the Island, therefore it is imperative that it be sturdy and stable.

Previously, the front face of the sea wall had been repaired, using cement mortaring sandstone face block/boulder joints, applying a cement render layer over sections of sea wall face, and overlaying the front face with concrete. Our engineers found that CPRL Aqueous Solution (a chemically blended aqueous solution, free of chlorides) would enhance the properties of the concrete and would prevent surface cracking and hardness, inhibits reinforcement corrosion and is an excellent moisture barrier that will make the wall durable.
Once applied, this solution would ensure that the sea wall would remain beautiful and durable for years to come.
