Century Tower, a boutique residential tower rising 52 storeys and prominently situated in the heart of Sydney CBD required remedial design and works to ensure the compliance of the balcony balustrades. The concern was the loading capacity and installation of the glass panes within the balustrade. Bellmont was asked to engineer a solution which impacted minimally on view and aesthetics, yet provided for the required design and load performance. and management along the entire length of the job. The problem in the original design with the balustrades lies in the geometry— straight glass panels secured into to curved aluminium top rails! The glass was unable to be secured sufficiently to prevent falling. Bellmont’s design incorporated subtle mounting plates with structural fixings and silicones. The solution is being implemented by Abbseilers United—under the watchful eye of our Project Engineers.

In June of 2011, Sydney Water embarked on the rejuvenation of several pipe lines in the northern districts of Sydney. The pipelines span over the Lane Cove River and over trafficable areas and therefore an engineering solution was required. Bellmont was engaged by the scaffold Subcontractor — Oz Scaffold with whom we worked closely with to achieve a practical and feasible design.
Australian Standards AS1576, AS4576 and AS 4100 provide stringent design criteria for steel tube access scaffold. The cantilevered scaffold over the Lane Cove River provided the most intriguing detail and design requirements– with safety placing a particular emphasis on the design requirements of the components. Bellmont has been providing site inspections to ensure that the scaffold system viewed on site was commensurate with the scaffold design. BellMont has been awarded a further 2 projects of a similar nature and continues to provide expert design and site advice.
